We stay true to our slogan, because we believe that by “knowing you” better, we will be able to build a better Kreston. We hope we can share this goal together in Madrid.
In line with our Purpose Strategy we have started our journey to “carbon net zero” and we are looking into ways to minimize our events’ environmental impact. Our first steps have been:
We know that is not enough, but it’s a first step in the right direction.
Due to the very nature of our organization, the events in Madrid will have a very high carbon footprint from travel. We know that most members can’t avoid flying and therefore Kreston Global has invested in a partnership with Treedom, an agroforestry organization that works with farming communities across the world. Together we hope to alleviate some of the carbon footprint our activities may have, so that we can be a better business network that has a positive impact on our society and our planet.
Contribute to offset your travel carbon emission
The great thing is that each attendee can contribute to the Kreston EMEA & World Conference 2022 forest by:
You will receive a link from Treedom that will enable you to see how your tree is growing and know more about the community that it will serve.
We will also calculate the carbon footprint for the Madrid event and use the EMEA & World Conference 2022 forest to help offset its carbon emissions.
Kreston is committed to being a responsible business network that helps its members be a force for good, and we will not stop working to try and achieve this.
What our suppliers are doing
Below is an overview of what our suppliers are doing to limit their impact and improve sustainability.
The Westin Palace Madrid is ISO 14001:2015 and EMAS certified. The hotel is part of Marriott and follows their worldwide sustainability policies including:
The gala dinner venue uses only 100% renewable energy and recycles all waste via certified suppliers who will reuse as much as possible. They hold Repsol and Soluciones Recoambiente certificates.
Finca Las Muñoza
The venue for the MasterChef contest and dinner is run by an NGO that helps people with learning disabilities and they are very much focused on sustainability.
The caterer, La Concha, buys as much local produce as possible, uses mostly environmentally- friendly energy sources, ensures that all equipment is fully turned off when not in use, and turns all the used cooking oil into bio fuel. They have a Grupo A Gestogras certificate for their bio fuel plant.
Finca Los Jarales
The finca is situated in the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares national park and not only follows all the regulations that the location requires, but has been commended several times for its environmental care.
Staff meals are all made using local organic produce, mostly cultivated in-house. All banquets use organic local produce as much as possible. No single use plastic is used during events. The finca has two wells to collect rainwater to use for irrigation and ensures that all materials are properly recycled.
Transfers
All buses used during the event comply with the current European directive and use engines with low pollutant emissions: Euro IV, V or VI.
AV and Materials
The AV suppliers have put in place policies for staff to lower their energy consumption including switching all equipment off. They have also replaced all materials harmful to the environment with eco-friendly options.
No PVC is used for any banners or stage backdrops and all materials, including stage carpet will be recycled after the event.
Face masks are compulsory in taxis and on public transport. Face masks will need to be worn on the buses to and from MasterChef and Finca Los Jarales.
All attractions and cultural institutions are free to decide which measures they keep in place on their premises. We strongly advise you to always bring a face mask with you in case you'll be asked to wear it.
